Bill Hall
Born: 1929 in Brookhaven, Texas
William G. (Bill) Hall achieved success as a music producer, promoter and publisher. Hall moved to Beaumont with his family as a child, and graduated from South Park High School and Lamar State College of Technology.
He began his music career in Beaumont, opening a recording studio and working as a booking agent for such artists as George Jones and Benny Barnes, eventually becoming Jones' manager. Hall also had hits with J.P. Richardson's "Chantilly Lace" in 1958 and Johnny Preston's "Running Bear" in 1960.
Later, he joined with Sun Records engineer Jack Clements, to form the Gulf Coast Recording Company, working with Jerry LaCroix, Johnny Allen, Edgar and Johnny Winter, Roger Miller, Bob McDill, and Tex Ritter. The two later formed one of the most successful country music publishing companies in Nashville, Hall-Clement (BMI)/Jack and Bill (ASCAP) and promoted the hits of Willie Nelson, Janie Fricke, and Ronnie Milsap.
Hall also helped to launch the Oak Ridge Boys and managed the Statler Brothers' song company. In the 1970s, he formed a company dedicated to the promotion of pop music. Hall was known as "Colonel" on Music Row in Nashville as well as to friends and associates.
