Dale and Grace
Dale and Grace topped the charts in 1963 with their number one hit "I'm Leaving It Up to You." Dale Houston was introduced to Grace Broussard by record producer Sam Montel, who owned Montel label for national releases, as well as three smaller labels named for his daughters (Michele, Stephanie, and Debbie) for regional releases.
Dale was a country and western piano player-singer from Seminary, Mississippi, when Montel had the idea of pairing him with Grace, whom he had discovered in her native Praireville, Louisiana. At the time she was earning $15 a week singing in her brother Van's Cajun band. The duo recorded their hit at Montel's studio in Baton Rouge. After being released locally on the Michele label, "I'm Leaving It Up to You" went to number one in Houston. Then Montel decided to release it on his national label.
On November 17, 1963 the song reached number one on the Hot 100. At the time the duo was on tour with Dick Clark's Caravan of Stars. "Stop and Think It Over" was the duo's second single. It reached number eight on the charts.
